Redmond Fire & Rescue hires new chief

Redmond Fire & Rescue’s Board of Directors has approved the hiring of Ken Kehmna as the new fire chief to lead the district, the agency said Monday.

Kehmna will begin his new position in Redmond on Nov. 1.He was previously the fire chief of Santa Clara County, Calif., and has an extensive resume in all aspects of managing and operating a fire district, officials said

Redmond Fire Board President Carroll Penhollow said, “The Board of Directors and the entire organization is excited to have attracted such a talented professional to Redmond. It’s an excellent reflection on recently retired Fire Chief Tim Moor and this entire organization that we are able to attract such a qualified professional.”

Kehmna brings over 31 years of experience and is well known nationally for his contributions. His salary will be $140,000 a year.

Kehmna said, “I look forward to taking the helm at Redmond Fire & Rescue. This community should be proud of having built such an excellent organization from bottom to top.”

The Western Fire Chiefs Association provided assistance in recruiting a talented pool of professionals. Chief Executive Officer Jeff Johnson commented, “We are excited for both Redmond Fire & Rescue and Chief Kehmna. This is an excellent department paired with a top fire chief. Congratulations to them both.”
