Remains found in John Day cabin belong to missing man
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say human remains found in a cabin near John Day have been identified as those of a man missing since the cabin burned earlier this year.
The Register-Guard reports tissue discovered inside the residence in July was positively identified Monday as belonging to Terry Smith.
The State Medical Examiner’s Office is analyzing dental records and other tissue samples which authorities say could belong to missing woman Sharon Smith.
Grant County Sheriff Glenn Palmer said previously authorities believe the Smiths were the victims of homicide.
On Oct. 20, police in Boise, Idaho found a pickup truck belonging to the couple in a Burger King parking lot.
Palmer told the newspaper he had no comment about whether a suspect had been identified but said the investigation is ongoing.
