Sisters Ranger District adds first snowshoe trail

The Sisters Ranger District of the Deschutes National Forest announced this week it has partnered with several local trails groups to build the Peak View Snowshoe Trail, the first designated snowshoe trail on the district.

This new 1.75-mile trail connects Upper Three Creeks Sno Park and Jeff View Shelter providing snowshoers a route to fully enjoy the views of the Cascades. The trail was built with the help of Central Oregon Nordic Club, Sisters Trail Alliance and Deschutes National Forest Trail Crew. The Deschutes Trail Coalition provided funding for winter trail markers and other signing needs for the project.

As snowshoeing has increased in popularity over the years, this route is expected to help alleviate congestion and conflict between snowshoers and skiers. Other dedicated snowshoe trails on the Deschutes National Forest have become very popular and have great reduced trail conflicts.

District Recreation Team Leader Amy Racki noted, “We are very excited about this trail, as it will provide a safe and enjoyable recreation experience for snowshoe users in the Upper Three Creek winter recreation area.”

The trail is ready to go and just waiting for snow to arrive.
