The strong “rotten egg” smell put into natural gas was evident off Northeast Division Street in Bend on Monday night, prompting closure of the street until repairs could be made to nearby Cascade Natural Gas equipment, fire officials said.
Fire crews responded around 8:35 p.m. to the reported gas smell near the Riverbend Brewing Sports Pub in the 2600 block of Division Street, Capt. Dan Tigner said.
Crews found a CNG pressure-regulating station venting gas into the open air, Tigner said.
Fire crews worked with police to close Division Street and checked area businesses for exposure to gas or safety concerns. Tigner said no problems were found inside the area businesses.
Crews were on scene for about 45 minutes while CNG crews made repairs.
