JCSO IDs driver killed in rollover crash NE of Madras
Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies on Wednesday identified a 64-year-old man killed in the rollover crash of his SUV northeast of Madras late Tuesday afternoon
Deputies and medics were called out around 4:45 p.m. to the reported single-vehicle crash on Northeast Clark Drive, north of Dogwood Lane, Undersheriff Marc Heckathorn said. They were told one person had been in the vehicle and was thrown from it.
Deputies arrived and began performing CPR until Jefferson County EMS medics arrived. Heckathorn said Robert William McRee, a resident of the unincorporated community of Gateway, was pronounced dead at the scene.
An initial investigation determined McRee was driving from Gateway toward Madras on Clark Drive. A witness reported seeing the Chevy SUV traveling at a high rate of speed before it left the road and flipped into an empty field, Heckathorn said, adding that the driver did not appear to be wearing a seat belt.
The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Jefferson County EMS and Jefferson County Fire District No. 1.
