Oregon Parks begins Pilot Butte master plan update

KTVZ

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department announced Wednesday it is accepting public comment on the development of a new draft master plan for Pilot Butte State Scenic Viewpoint in Bend.

Members of the public have several opportunities to learn more about the draft master plan development process and voice their opinions on draft plan development: online, email, mail and two public meetings.

Online: submit comments at pilotbuttemasterplan.com. Email: submit comments to Rachel Hill, OPRD park planner, rachel.hill@oregon.gov. Mail: submit comments to Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, Attn. Rachel Hill, 725 Summer St. NE, Suite C, Salem, OR 97301.

Comments made by email or mail will be accepted until Dec. 20, 2018.

Public meetings:

6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Willamalane Park and Recreation District Adult Activity Center, Riverview room, 215 W. C St., Springfield. 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29 at Bend Park and Recreation District Office, Riverbend room, 779 SW Columbia St., Bend.

The agenda for both meetings will be the same: an overview of the draft master plan development process, information about the park’s current state and an opportunity for public comment.

The public may also attend an upcoming Pilot Butte Master Plan Advisory Committee meeting 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30 at Bend Park and Recreation District Office, Riverbend room, 779 SW Columbia St., Bend. Public comments will not be accepted at that meeting.

OPRD park planners will incorporate public feedback into the draft master plan. The initial draft is expected to be completed in July of 2019.

A park master plan guides the development and use of park facilities. It also provides guidelines for the protection and management of important natural, cultural and scenic resources within the park. Master plans are on a 20-year update cycle and are subject to final approval by the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Commission.

Individuals that require special accommodations to attend the public meetings must contact Rachel Hill, OPRD park planner, at 503-302-5960 at least three days in advance.
