Redmond man arrested after assault, robbery
A 40-year-old Redmond man was arrested Wednesday evening after police said he got in an argument with another man sitting in a car, threatened him with a knife, slashed two of his tires, punched him in the face several times and demanded he turn over his cellphone, wallet and other personal items.
Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Southwest 25 th Street and Fissure Loop north on the reported dispute involving a man with a knife, Lt. Curtis Chambers said.
Responding officers were told by the victim and a witness that Rudy Gandarilla became upset with the victim and threatened the man, who was sitting in his car, with a knife after the victim drove an acquaintance of Gandarilla to his home.
After the reported assault, Gandarilla went inside his home before police arrived, Chambers said.
He cooperated with police and was arrested on several charges, including first-degree robbery and theft, fourth-degree assault and second-degree criminal mischief. He remained held Thursday at the Deschutes County Jail on $135,000 bail.
Chambers said “drug impairment” by Gandarilla is suspected as a contributing factor in the crimes. He added that the two men knew each other before the incident.
