Lane County to relocate homeless campers to new site
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Lane County officials are planning to relocate people in a homeless camp near Eugene to a new location managed by the St. Vincent de Paul organization.
The Register-Guard reports officials will close the camp on State Highway 99 on Monday and move dozens of people to the new site a short distance away.
The new site will allow campers to sleep overnight in heated tents and provide an area where they can stay during the day.
County officials organized the current camp to relocate people who were congregating near the county courthouse in downtown Eugene.
Officials say the current camp was planned to be temporary.
