Search suspended for missing Columbia River duck hunter
ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – The search for a 19-year-old duck hunter who disappeared Saturday on the Columbia River has been suspended.
KOIN-TV reports Monday that Riley Salisbury was hunting with his father and younger brother when he took a small watercraft to hunt alone a few miles away from them.
Around noon, the Portland-area teen fell out of cellphone contact and his father called 911.
Searchers found the boat drifting near Russian Island with Salisbury’s cellphone and bag still inside.
His fully loaded gun was found on Karlson Island.
His father says Salisbury is an experienced duck hunter.
The U.S. Coast Guard searched for Salisbury for 19 hours before calling off the operation.
Russian and Karlson islands are east of Astoria, on the Oregon side of the Columbia River.
