Oregon Water Wonderland II plans sewer project

KTVZ

If your home is connected to a septic system, eventually you may have to either replace it or hook up to a sewer system. On Thursday morning, the board of the Oregon Water Wonderland II Sanitary District south of Sunriver met to discuss how to go about doing that for their neighborhood.

It’s similar to the task facing many residents in southeast Bend, but in the Oregon Water Wonderland District, they’re only in the preliminary stages.

One of the obstacles is the price tag, but unlike those in Bend, where homeowners might be on the hook for $25,000 each, it might wind up being relatively affordable.

“It’s going to be a whole lot less than that,” OWW board member Michael Hambey said. “It’s more likely it would be in the $10,000 or less (range), depending on what kinds of grants and loans are available. Frankly, because we’re in the area that we’re in, which has the problems that it does with groundwater, there’s a higher likelihood that we can get more grant money.”

Unfortunately, the cost estimates won’t be available until the federal government opens back up. Still, the plan is to start applying for grants by the end of this year or the start of 2020.
