Get your ham radio license in a day
The High Desert Amateur Radio Group (HIDARG) through Central Oregon Community College offers an accelerated training class for people wanting to get their ham radio license. In a single day, you can earn your entry level license.
The full day class runs from 8:30 am to 4 pm. The official Federal Communications Commission (FCC) test is then administered from 4 pm until 5:30 pm. (Most people complete the test in 30 minutes or less).
The one-day session will be offered twice this spring: Saturday, February 2nd, and Saturday, March 23rd, both at COCC.
The curriculum is primarily guided self-study and is approved by the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) and the FCC. The class will end with a 90-minute licensing test.
The cost of the class includes the ARRL licensing manual but does not cover the cost of the test. Students must bring a separate check for $15 made out to ARRL VEC (cash or credit cards will NOT be accepted). Students age 16 or older may register for this class but those under age 18 must attend with a paid parent or adult.
This course is suitable for people with no previous knowledge of electronics. The math involved is simple algebra. Morse code is no longer required.
