(Update: Second suspect arrested at Parole and probation office)

A 25-year-old Redmond man sought since a raid on a southwest Redmond duplex on Friday was arrested Monday at the Deschutes County Parole & Probation Office in Redmond, police said.

Police contacted James Bonner III and took him into custody on charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle and a probation violation. He was taken to the county jail in Bend and held without bail on the latter charge.

Police Lt. Eric Beckwith said the department wanted to thank the public for their assistance in the investigation.

A Redmond officer spotted a stolen van Friday morning in the 1400 block of Southwest 27th Street and a reported suspect in the case, Bonner, was seen on foot in the area, Beckwith said.

Officers and detectives conducted surveillance in the block and pinpointed a duplex at 1415 SW 27th St. as the residence associated with the stolen van and suspects, Beckwith said.

Officers developed information about several occupants of the home, including Dustin Gates, 29, wanted in connection with property and ID theft crimes in several Oregon counties.

“Based on known law enforcement history with Gates and Bonner and additional information regarding the potential of stolen firearms inside the residence,” Beckwith said, the Central Oregon Emergency Response Team, the region’s SWAT team, helped execute a search warrant shortly before 4 p.m. Friday for the stolen van and evidence inside the duplex.

Southwest 27th Street was blocked off between Metolius and Obsidian avenues, and residents heard officers calling by loudspeaker for whoever was in the duplex to come out with their hands up.

G ates was taken into custody without incident, but Bonner was not found and remains at large, Beckwith said. Police sought the public’s help in finding Bonner

Southwest 27th Street was closed for about two hours while the raid was conducted. Beckwith said Saturday he could not disclose what was found in the duplex or other details, due to the ongoing investigation and continued search for Bonner.

The lieutenant noted the same duplex recently was the subject of a search warrant conducted by Bend police, where stolen guns were recovered and several arrests made.

Gates was taken to the Deschutes County Jail in Bend and held without bail on a probation violation. New charges include identity theft, first- and third-degree theft, fraudulent use of a credit card, computer crime, unlawful entry into a motor vehicle and methamphetamine possession.

“The Redmond Police Department would like to thank the Central Oregon Emergency Response Team for helping keep Redmond safe, and would like to remind citizens to secure items of value in their homes rather than in vehicles and to immediately report crimes of theft,” Beckwith’s news release concluded.

A robbery early Christmas Day at the Sonoma Lodge in southeast Bend led to the arrest of four people and a raid on the same Redmond duplex, where police recovered a stolen .22-caliber rifle, as well as a stolen PlayStation video game system and propane torch.

Last July, Gates and another Redmond man were arrested in a raid on a home in the 1900 block of Northeast Eighth Street in Redmond after an investigation into drug sales. Police said they found more than $13,000 worth of various drugs and a small butane honey oil lab.

Court records show two felony cases against Bonner in recent years. He pleaded guilty last August to two counts of theft and drug possession and was sentenced to 10 days in jail and 18 months probation. In 2015, he pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm and received three years probation.

Gates pleaded no contest last November to drug possession and fraudulent use of a credit card. He was sentence dto 10 days in jail and 18 months probation. On a separate charge, he pleaded guilty to delivery of Oxycodone and a dozen other drug charges were dismissed, and he was sentenced to 20 days in jail and two years probation.
