Mapleton woman killed in crash on snowy Hwy. 101
A Mapleton woman and her dog were killed and two people were seriously injured Saturday morning in a crash on snow- and ice-covered Highway 101 near Florence, Oregon State Police reported.
Troopers and medics responded shortly after 11 a.m. to the reported two-vehicle crash at milepost 193 on the highway, OSP Captain Tim Fox said.
A preliminary investigation found that Jamie Jones, 52, was heading north at the wheel of a green 1999 Ford Explorer when she lost control on the slick road and collided with an oncoming white 2015 Isuzu delivery truck driven by Daniel Crump, 25 of Reedsport.
Jones was taken to Florence Peace Harbor Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Fox said. Her companion dog also died at the crash scene.
Crump and his passenger, Nicholas Housego, 32, of Bandon, were taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The crash and investigation closed Highway 101 for about three hours. OSP was assisted at the scene by Siuslaw Valley Fire, Western Lane Ambulance, ODOT and Mast Brothers Towing.
