Local Alert Weather – Tues. PM

KTVZ

Happy Tuesday evening, everyone!

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in place for the higher elevations in Central Oregon and areas closer to the Cascades. Snow will accumulate on the roads and visibility could be low at times due to gusty winds. Roads will turn icy and slippery overnight.

A WINTER STORM WARNING is in place for the mountain passes and CHAINS ARE REQUIRED tonight because of heavy snowfall. Take your time if you are traveling or consider making a change in plans.

We’ll see the chance for showers continue overnight and picking up through the early hours of tomorrow. Look for slick roads to begin the day with some showers. Areas in higher elevations and near the Bend area will see 1-3″ of snow on the ground by the morning as of this evening. Overnight lows will be slight below the freezing mark in the upper 20s and lower 30s.

Wednesday will start with snow levels around 3,400′ and we won’t see a major chance until Thursday. Highs will be a little cooler in the mid to upper 30s. Winds will be much more calm out of the north around 10 miles per hour by the evening. Showers have a chance of sticking around all day becoming more mixed by the afternoon as temperatures rise.

Heading into Thursday snow levels climb to 5,300′ by the morning. We start dry, icy, and slick on Thursday, but will see showers push in by the second half of the day. Our main concern is as snow levels fall to 1,700′ by the evening, that’s when we also see the arrival of showers. Showers will see a wintry mix included, which means icy conditions and this is something we’re closely monitoring for you. Highs will be cooler on Thursday in the low to mid 30s.

Friday will see a chance for snow showers, but mostly cloudy skies overall. Highs will be in the low to mid 30s. Expect more of the same for Saturday with a break in the showers and a cool down by Sunday.
