Redmond working to keep up with growth

As Redmond continues to expand, the city’s looking to make sure it can keep up with that growth.

It’s no secret that Central Oregon continues to grow, and the city of Redmond’s looking to make sure that growth is sustainable.

It’s working to make sure a number of projects are done to benefit the city.

Chuck Arnold, Redmond urban renewal program manager, said the list of projects was put together by the Downtown Urban Renewal Advisory Committee, which held a meeting to discuss them Monday evening.

Arnold said it comes down to making sure Redmond is livable, and can grow economically.

“Things in the plan also really think about the growth of Redmond, and the demographics in Redmond and what the needs are,” Arnold said. “What we constantly hear is, ‘We want family-friendly activities, and opportunities for Redmondites to stay here, play and live and enjoy our city.’ And so we have projects in the plan that think about that really work to achieve those goals.”

Some of the projects in the plan include downtown redevelopment, the Homestead Trail, a medical business district, Centennial Park expansion and more public parking.

Arnold said the city is currently focusing on getting the downtown Historic Redmond Hotel project completed.
