An investigation into the recent death of retired Bend firefighter John Love has been completed and found no indications of foul play, Deschutes County District Attorney John Hummel said Wednesday.

The body of Love, 60, was found by searchers on Feb. 11, covered in snow in a large hole at a construction site near Northeast 18th Street and Cooley Road..

The discovery was made not far from Love’s home on St. Cloud Street, where authorities said a cab driver had dropped him off early on Wednesday, Feb. 6. Family members reported him missing the following Saturday.

“While the exact cause of death is still to be determined by the Oregon state medical examiner, all available evidence indicates that no foul play was involved,” Hummel said in a statement. “The local investigation is closed.”

The district attorney added that he “and all local first responders extend our sympathies to John Love’s family and friends. His impact on our community carries forward through the lives of the people he literally helped save during his service as a firefighter.”
