Snowfall impacts Deschutes County senior nutrition services

KTVZ

Due to snow accumulation in the Bend area, Meals on Wheels will not be delivered in Bend, Sisters or La Pine on Tuesday. The senior lunch at the Sisters Community Church has been canceled on Tuesday. Other senior meal sites and Meals on Wheels delivery areas across the tri-county area may be impacted.

Meals on Wheels clients are advised to use the shelf-stable emergency meals provided in late 2018. These meals are contained in a brown box and were delivered to all Meals on Wheels clients during the winter season in case of inclement weather. The Council on Aging offices are also closed Tuesday, as are many local senior centers.

Meals on Wheels site coordinators are contacting clients to check on well-being and safety and to let them know about the interruption to meal delivery. There were no reported safety issues in Bend on Monday, following the first day of Meals on Wheels cancellation.

Delivery may be resumed on Wednesday, depending on weather conditions. The shelf-stable emergency food boxes contain five meals and are distributed ahead of the winter season in case of inclement weather or other emergencies that interrupt Meals on Wheels delivery.
