Local Alert Weather – Wed. PM
Happy Wednesday evening, everyone!
A WINTER STORM WARNING remains in effect through early Thursday morning for additional snowfall along with packed snow and icy roads. Check mountain pass conditions as Willamette Pass remains closed at this hour along with highway 20 from Salem to Santiam Junction.
Overnight we’ll see another 1-2″ in Central Oregon with 2-4″ in the Cascades. Temperatures will begin in the single digits and teens Thursday morning. We’ll see partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies, but we will still have piles of snow on the ground. Expect another morning with snow packed roads.
Daytime highs on Thursday get into the low to mid 30s with sunshine beating down — this is when concerns will develop. Overnight into Friday we will see lows in the teens and well below freezing, so everything that melted or partially melted during the day will re-freeze creating icy ruts.
Friday morning will begin with a few inches of snow on the ground from overnight Thursday. Throughout the day we will see shower activity calm setting us up for a mainly dry weekend, but plenty of snow will be leftover. Daytime highs for Friday will be some of the warmest of the week in the mid 30s.
So far, this weekend is looking dry with mostly cloudy skies. Highs will bounce around the freezing mark in the lower 30s. Overnight lows will continue to be in the teens.
