Redmond K-9 follows snowy footprints to fugitive on roof

A 28-year-old fugitive wanted on several arrest warrants ran from pursuing Redmond police Thursday night but was found after a lengthy hunt, thanks to his footprints in the snow and a K-9’s scent tracking, as he tried to hide on the roof of a southwest Redmond home, officers said.

Police learned shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday that Naithan Lee Gore, a Central Oregon area resident, was at the Chevron gas station on South Highway 97 in Redmond, police Lt. Curtis Chambers said Friday. Police knew Gore had several warrants for his arrest, dating back to 2017.

When officers arrived, Gore ran when he saw patrol cars pull into the parking lot, Chambers said.

Several Redmond officers, helped by Officer Josh Powers and his K-9 partner Mavrik , followed a track in the snow for nearly 90 minutes. At times, the visible shoe prints in the snow were lost, but Mavrik was able to follow the scent until the prints became visible again, the lieutenant said.

Gore ran through several side and back yards to avoid police, also climbing several fences, according to police. But he was found trying to hide on the roof of a home in the 1700 block of Southwest Metolius Avenue, and gave up once found.

Gore was taken to the Deschutes County Jail in Bend and lodged on the outstanding Deschutes and Clackamas county arrest warrants, for which he was held without bail. He also was arrested on initial new charges:10 counts of second-degree criminal trespass and one count of second-degree criminal mischief.

Jail records late Friday showed his charges now include two counts of attempting to elude police in a vehicle, criminal driving with a suspended or revoked license, reckless driving and methamphetamine possession

Court records show Gore, a Culver resident was arraigned Friday on several of those 2017 charges, as well as one count each of second-degree criminal trespass and crimianl mischief, with a plea hearing set for March 22.
