Audrey Haugan, Ed.D of Elgin, Illinois, has been selected from a nationwide search to become the next principal of Redmond High School, Redmond schools Superintendent Mike McIntosh announced Thursday.

“Audrey brings a great deal of experience to Redmond High,” McIntosh said. “Meeting her and learning about her approach to education gives me confidence she will be able to hit the ground running on day one.”

Haugan emerged as the top choice among four finalists who spent Tuesday at Redmond High School for a rigorous, day-long interview process where she was able to meet with Redmond High students, employees, district officials and members of the community.

Haugan most recently served as principal of Maine West High School in Des Plaines, Illinois for the past 13 years, a school of 2,200 students and 300-plus teachers and staff. During that time she also held adjunct professor roles at Roosevelt University and Concordia University in Illinois, where she taught educators how to be effective principals.

“Dr. Haugan is a student-centered leader who focuses on the student learning experience and improving success for all students,” Steve Humphrey, Ed.D, her former supervisor said. “I’m confident she will work effectively on the school culture to create a positive experience for students, staff and parents while ensuring a safe and secure climate for everyone in the building. In the time that I worked with Audrey, she valued the participation of all stakeholders and worked to increase student engagement and success. She has great enthusiasm for creating school pride and meeting the needs of all students.”

Haugan holds a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University, a Master’s of Education from Northeastern Illinois University and a Doctorate of Education from Roosevelt University.

Haugan will officially begin her new role on July 1. She has already started the process of finding a home in Redmond, a place where she has family. She and her husband are very eager to establish roots in the community.
