NeighborImpact mortgage aid program seeks applicants

NeighborImpact’s 12-month mortgage assistance program will be accepting its final applications this month. After March, the state-funded program will close and will no longer accept applications. Those interested in participating in the program are encouraged to apply now.
The 12-month mortgage assistance program is designed to help Central Oregonians who are struggling to pay their mortgage and is available in the tri-county region. The program helps participants avoid foreclosure by doing one of two things:
1: Paying your mortgage for up to one year up to a maximum of $20,000
2: Bringing your mortgage current if you are less than $40,000 behind on your mortgage.
To find out whether they are eligible for the program, applicants can complete the eligibility questionnaire located on the Home Rescue Program web-page: http://www.oregonhomeownerhelp.org/en/homeowner-education-program/home-rescue-program/home-rescue-program-home
Applications are accepted via Oregon Homeownership Stabilization Initiative (OHSI) website: http://www.oregonhomeownerhelp.org.
Once an application has been submitted, NeighborImpact HomeSource staff act as the local intake agency and will process all of the applications’ necessary documentation.

Sonia Capece, HomeSource director at NeighborImpact, said Thursday, “We’re getting to a time where all the funds have to be deployed, or in 2020, the funds will have to be returned to the federal government.”
“Oregon did such a good job at putting money where it needed to go that when the program closed on some other parts of the country, the federal government recaptured some of those funds and redistributed them to the states that have done the best job at getting it to the people that needed it,” such as Oregon.
