Redmond revisits policies for RVs parked on streets

If you’ve wondered why RVs are stranded on some streets in Redmond, you’re not alone. C ity officials have noticed it, too.

Not much is being done about it right now, but they want to change that.

The current Redmond city code says RVs cannot be used as a permanent residence. A s NewsChannel 21 learned, the city is very lenient in enforcing that code.

As more RVs appear, officials say the number of complaints from community members regarding the RVs also increase.

“They’re concerned about the impacts they’re having on their neighborhood and quality of life,” John Roberts, deputy city manager, said Friday. “That could be something as simple as access, or it could also be the aesthetics. So, it’s a combination of factors that have to be taken into consideration.”

Redmond is not the only city in Central Oregon that has codes in place to address the issue.

Bend, Madras and Sisters similarly do not allow residential RVs to be parked on the street. Prineville’s city code says residential RVs are allowed for a maximum of seven days if they are on private property, with written permission from the property owner.

The Redmond City Council will hold work session at City Hall on Tuesday at 6 p.m. to revisit the policies surrounding RVs.

Roberts said some of the options he’ll present to councilors include creating more RV parks, creating an RV permit system or changing the current code to more clearly address time limits.
