Sisters council working on goals for next two years

The city of Sisters is working to finalize its goals and budget for the next two years.

The Sisters City Council has broken down priorities into six main categories to benefit the community: livability and growth, public safety, economic development, essential infrastructure, good governance and community vision.

City Manager Cory Misley said Wednesday one of the issues is making sure the city is able to manage growth.

That includes creating affordable housing options for the community, which he said the council has already taken some steps toward finding a solution.

” We are in the midst of putting in place an affordable housing grant program, which will help solidify how the city is going to be a partner in affordable housing, in Sisters Country in the future, ” Misley said. ” And so that is something that we have been working on for several months now, and is actually heading to council for their considerations of approval next month. ”

Misley added the city believes its important that it plays a role in finding a solution to create more housing options in Sisters.

Misley also spoke about a project that is in the works on Sisters streets.

It’s a project that has long been talked about, but now the city council wants to make sure they are taking concrete steps toward achieving it.

The intersection of Highway 20 and Locust Street is slated to see a roundabout installed.

Misley said that’s why council has made this project a part of their goal-setting, to move forward with it and make sure it can be funded.

” It’s something that we understand can take a lot of time putting together those funding pieces, ” Misley said. ” But we also understand that project readiness is also going to equal funding, so we need to look into next year and beyond, at how do we start to move forward some of that project development. ”

There has not been a timetable set for the project as of yet .

Once the budgeting portion of the goal-setting is complete, there’ll be a better sense of how the involved entities will move forward with the project.

Misley said that budgeting process will take place during the month of May, after the goals have been formally put into place by council at their next meeting.

And once the budget is complete, it will be adopted by the city council, to take effect in July.
