Fugitive who eluded manhunt captured in NW Bend
A Bend man wanted on a felony fugitive warrant who eluded an extensive manhunt east of Bend last week was pulled over and arrested Wednesday after a tip brought investigators to a home in northwest Bend, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.
The sheriff’s office received information Wednesday that Stanley Raymond Heden, 52, could be associated with a home in the area of Northwest Newport Avenue and 12th Street, sheriff’s Sgt. William Bailey said.
The sheriff’s office Street Crimes Unit set up surveillance in the area and located Heden shortly before noon Wednesday, at the wheel of the same Ford F-150 pickup he allegedly was driving during the April 23 pursuit, Bailey said.
A high-risk (guns drawn) traffic stop was conducted and Heden was taken into custody without further incident.
Hden was booked into the county jail on new charges from the pursuit, as well as charges related to a civil disturbance call on Fort Rock Road that brought deputies to the area last week.
Heden was held without bail on a parole violation and also charged with two counts of attempting to elude police, menacing, felon in possession of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon and criminal driving with a suspended or revoked license.
A chase and manhunt involving two K-9 teams and an Oregon State Police plane failed to find Heden west of Millican last week.
