Four finalists named for Bear Creek Elementary principal

Students, staff and community members are invited to meet the four finalists vying for the principal position for Bear Creek Elementary School. A community forum begins in the school’s gym at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Attendees will get a chance to see presentations from the candidates and interact with them.

Finalist details:

Teresa Baldwin served as Interim Superintendent for Centennial School District in Portland for one year and Superintendent for Washougal School District in Washington for five years. Prior to that, Baldwin served as Director for Elementary and Secondary Education at Evergreen Public Schools in Washington and as an administrator and principal in Battle Ground Public Schools for 15 years. Baldwin also has eight years of teaching experience.

Tara Bourland is currently principal at Cascade Virtual Academy, a position Bourland has held for one year. Prior to that, Bourland was Principal at Firwood Elementary School in the Oregon Trail School District, Associate Director of Education Programs for Tigard-Tualatin School District and Federal Programs Coordinator for North Clackamas School District. Bourland also has six years of teaching experience.

Sam Platt is currently assistant principal at Obsidian Middle School in Redmond, a position Platt has held for five years. Prior to that, Platt served a classroom teacher in Redmond and has seven years of classroom teaching experience as well as two years of experience as an athletic director at Elton Gregory Middle School in Redmond.

JP Richards is currently Director of Human Resources at Three Rivers School District in Grants Pass, a position Richards has held for one year. Prior to that, Richards served as principal at East Elementary School in Tillamook, Director of English Language Development and Principal at Tillamook Junior High School. Richards also worked as an administrator in schools in Klamath Falls and Estacada. Richards also has eight years of teaching experience.

The new principal will begin July 1.
