Bend officer kicked in head during combative man’s arrest

A report of a naked, intoxicated man falling down in a northeast Bend 7-Eleven parking lot Thursday night led to the arrest of a 35-year-old man armed with a large knife who allegedly resisted arrest and kicked a female officer in the head, police said.

Police responded around 10:30 p.m. to the convenience store at Northeast Eighth Street and Greenwood Avenue on the report the man had fallen in the parking lot. He also was reported to have not paid for a cab ride to that location.

Police said when they arrived, the man later identified as Tony Latrell Williams, 35, had his pants around his ankles and an officer asked him to pull them up. They detained him in handcuffs following a brief theft investigation.

After Williams was handcuffed, a kitchen knife with about a 10-inch blade was located in his waistband, officers said.

At that point, police said, Williams became uncooperative with officers, assaulting one by kicking her in the head. Other officers who arrived on scene helped control Williams, who continued to resist by flailing about and trying to pull away, they said.

Eventually, Williams was restrained using a WRAP restraint device, designed to immobilize a person in order to protect them and others from injuries while in custody.

Williams was taken to the Deschutes County Jail and booked on charges of third-degree theft, resisting arrest, assaulting a public safety officer, interfering with a police officer, harassment and attempted unlawful use of a weapon. He was being held on $32,500 bail.
