Boardman woman jailed in DUII crash that killed 7-month-old
(Update: Adding mugshot)
A Boardman woman was arrested on manslaughter, drunk driving and other charges early Sunday after a crash on Interstate 84 in Morrow County killed a 7-month-old child in her car and critically injured a 3-year-old, Oregon State Police reported.
Troopers from the Pendleton Area Command and other emergency personnel responded around 3:15 a.m. to the reported single-vehicle crash on eastbound I-84 near milepost 175 in Morrow County.
Troopers said their preliminary investigation found that a silver 2003 Cadillac CTS driven by Veronica Andrade , 39, of Boardman, was heading east when it veered off the road onto the right shoulder and overturned.
The 7-month-old was thrown from the car and fatally injured, troopers said. Andrade and the 3-year-old were taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston, where the driver was treated and released into authorities’ custody. The child was flown to Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland.
Andrade was booked into the Umatilla County Jail on charges of first-degree manslaughter, DUII-alcohol, reckless driving, reckless endangering and first-degree assault. Bail totaled $525,000, jail records show.
The crash and investigation reduced eastbound I-84 to one lane for about three hours.
