BPRD needs teen volunteers for summer programs
Summer is coming up fast, and the Bend Park and Recreation District still has opportunities available for teens to volunteer with a variety of youth recreation programs.
Sue Boettner, recreation manager for BPRD, encourages teens to get involved.
“Teen volunteers are fantastic support and role models with youth programs,” Boettner said. “The young participants really connect with teens and volunteers have the opportunity to gain some experience and learn job related skills, while giving back to their community and having fun.”
Volunteers are needed to help with the district’s free summer program, Days of Play, offered at various parks. Opportunities are also available with the swim instructor aide and middle school fitness programs at Juniper Swim & Fitness Center, classes at the Art Station, science, craft and cooking camps, and day camp programs for children with disabilities.
Teen volunteers must enjoy working with younger children, be willing to take initiative, make a commitment and to create a positive, encouraging environment for all participants. Age requirement, time commitment, training and schedule vary by program.
