Mitchell ‘gun incident’ ends peacefully, one in custody

KTVZ

Residents in an area of the Wheeler County town of Mitchell were advised to shelter in place for a time Monday night due to what dispatchers called a “critical incident involving guns,” which ended with one person in custody.

The alert sent around 9:20 p.m. by Frontier Dispatch told residents to “please avoid the Main Street area of Mitchell due to a police action in progress at this time.”

“All residents in the area are requested to shelter in place unless contacted by law enforcement,” the alert stated.

An Oregon State Police SWAT team reportedly was being called in as well, before the suspect was reported in custody shortly before 10 p.m.

An updated alert stated, “The police action in the area of Main Street in Mitchell has been peacefully concluded. It is safe for citizens to go about normal business.”

We’ll have more details when they become available.
