Projects to temporarily close Ochoco NF roads

KTVZ

Starting next Monday, June 24, contractors working for the Ochoco National Forest plan to close short sections of Forest Service Road 30 and Forest Service Road 4250, about 7 miles east of Big Summit Prairie, in order to replace stream culverts. The closures could remain in place for up to 90 days.

The affected segments are located at the point where each road intersects with Happy Camp Creek. The FR30 / Happy Camp Creek crossing is just east of the FR30 intersection with Forest Service Road 4256. The FR4250 / Happy Camp Creek crossing is just east of the 4250 intersection with FR4256 .

Contractors plan to remove the road fill and existing pipe at both locations to replace them with a multi-plate arch before reconstructing the road. The new culverts will improve stream and aquatic organism passage.

Both intersections will be signed on the ground. People who wish to find alternate driving routes around the closures are encouraged to call the Ochoco National Forest office in Prineville.

Following completion of these two culvert replacements, contractors plan to replace two more culverts located nearby to the east on Forest Service Road 4250 on Toggle and Jackson Creeks. The Forest Service will post a notice to its website when these projects are taking place.

” We appreciate public tolerance of these temporary inconveniences in support of our restoration work, ” forest Public Affairs Officer Patrick Lair said ..
