(Update: Highway reopens; more details expected Saturday)

One person was killed and five taken to hospitals with injuries after a crash Friday afternoon on state Highway 22E in Marion County, Oregon State Police reported.

Troopers and medics were called around 3:10 p.m. to the crash near milepost 21, about two miles west of Mehama, the agency reported.

There was one confirmed fatality and five people were taken to area hospitals.

Troopers said the highway would be closed in both directions for several hours while troopers conduct their investigation.

“Please avoid the area, consider using an alternate route or expect long delays,” the OSP advisory stated.

ODOT TripCheck indicated a detour was in place until the road reopened later Friday.

Troopers said they expect to provide more information on Saturday.
