Interstate 5 traffic stop turns up hidden meth, heroin
More than 50 pounds of methamphetamine and nearly five pounds of heroin were found hidden in a car stopped Wednesday for traffic violations on Interstate 5 in Jackson County, Oregon State Police reported Friday. The two Tacoma, Washington men in the vehicle were arrested.
An OSP trooper from Central Point pulled over the northbound Mitsubishi around 3:45 p.m. for several traffic violations on the freeway near milepost 20, troopers said.
An OSP narcotics K-9 was deployed and alerted on the vehicle. A search turned up 50.8 pounds of methamphetamine and 4.87 pounds of heroin, OSP reported.
Driver Juan Enrique Lemus Del Cid, 28, and passenger Reynalda Larios-Cortes, 57, were arrested on drug possession and distribution charges and booked into the Jackson County Jail.
OSP said it was assisted by the Medford Homeland Security Investigations office.
