Cyclist killed in Portland crash; driver arrested
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A cyclist who was struck and killed by a motorist Sunday has been identified as the driver faces manslaughter and drunken driving charges.
The Portland Police Bureau says 32-year-old Lance T. Hart died before emergency responders arrived at the scene around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.
Police say investigators believe 21-year-old Nicholas P. Martinez was under the influence of alcohol when he drove into Hart. Police say Martinez cooperated at the scene and was arrested on charges of second-degree manslaughter, reckless driving and DUII.
It wasn’t immediately known if Martinez has a lawyer.
Police say this was the city’s 27th traffic-related death of 2019.
