Friends of the Children receives $6,000 grant
Friends of the Children-Central Oregon recently received a $6,000 grant award from Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation.
CCUIF awarded a total of $556,850 to 83 non-profit organizations located in Coos, Deschutes, Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath and Lane counties.
Director of Development and Marketing Penny Pritchard said, ” We are so grateful to be a first-time recipient of this grant award from the CCUIF . All $6,000 will go towards summer activities for children in our program who otherwise would not get to experience such opportunities.
” Scheduled activities will focus on intentional opportunities planned around outdoor education, eating healthy, and other areas like reading with their mentors. In addition, our program director is working in partnership with volunteers and staff to host Science, Technology, Education and Mathematics camps also known as STEM. ”
The mission of the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation is to offer assistance in youth education, strengthen youth and family, provide for positive youth development, and add to the quality of life for people in southwestern Oregon.
The 83 grantees include: four grantees from Coos County received $24,250; eleven grantees from Deschutes County received $69,600; 11 grantees from Douglas County received $73,400; 16 grantees in Jackson County received
$111,600; nine grantees in Josephine County received $77,500; seven grantees in Klamath County received $52,500; 14 grantees from Lane County received $81,500, and 11 grantees from organizations that serve multiple counties received $66,500.

Friends of the Children is a national nonprofit started in Portland, OR 25 years ago. The Central Oregon chapter became a 501c3 October 2017 with the mission of breaking the cycle of generational poverty by giving the most vulnerable children the ability to create a new story. We provide our children with a long-term, salaried, professional mentor, who we call a Friend, from kindergarten through graduation–12 ½ years, no matter what.
