Youth tackle football registration deadline coming

Local youth are invited to participate in Bend Park and Recreation District’s youth tackle football program. The registration deadline is Monday, July 7 . Register at www.bendparksandrec.org.

The youth tackle football league is open to boys and girls entering 5th and 6th grades. The 8-person team serves as a bridge between flag football and traditional 11-player football played in grades 7-12.

The program emphasizes skill development, participation, teamwork, sportsmanship and fun. All protective gear and jersey are provided.

Teams are organized by school, with practices twice per week and games played on Sundays from Aug. 12 to Oct. 20. The registration fee is $129 in-district and $154.80 for out-of-district residents.

Volunteer coaches needed

All youth sports leagues offer opportunities for adults as volunteer coaches. Providing support with program logistics, coaching and mentoring, volunteer coaches must complete a volunteer application and criminal history background check, as well as online concussion awareness training.
