Family Resource Center gets $75,000 parenting grant
Family Resource Center of Central Oregon announced Tuesday it has been awarded a $75,000 grant to support parenting education.
This grant is part of the Oregon Parenting Education Collaborative, a multi-year initiative supported by the Oregon Community Foundation in partnership with the Meyer Memorial Trust, The Ford Family Foundation, The Collins Foundation and Oregon State University.
Family Resource Center of Central Oregon works to increase positive parenting capacity and strengthen parent-child relationships to ensure children’s healthy development, school readiness, and academic and life success.
Through parenting education series, workshops, coaching, and home visits, Family Resource Center provides families with opportunities and resources to strengthen family connections by gaining more knowledge about child development, positive nurturing parenting skills, and maintaining strong relationships between parent and child.
Executive Director Dee Ann Lewis explains, ” This continued support from the Oregon Parenting Education Collaborative provides opportunities for Central Oregon families to find new ways to encourage and support one another, while learning with their children. ”
” A positive interaction here and there may appear small, but skills learned through parenting education lessen the impact of negative experiences, simultaneously creating opportunity for more positive ones. The small experiences add up to BIG outcomes like first generation college students, decreased rates of suicide, increased resiliency, and even less parenting stress! We are grateful to OPEC and funders like OCF for their sustained support of our families. ”
