Autopsy: Remains found near Sunriver are man, 18-40
(Update: Autopsy confirms remains are male 18-40)
An autopsy has helped Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office investigators determine that human remains found by a camper west of Sunriver on Sunday were that of a white male between the ages of 18 and 40, officials said Wednesday.
An autopsy was conducted Tuesday at the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office in Clackamas, near Portland, on the remains, sheriff’s Sgt. William Bailey said.
Sheriff’s detectives are working with the medical examiner’s office and Oregon State Police Forensic Lab to review the information from the autopsy as they continue working to identify the man.
Anyone with information about the case was asked to call non-emergency dispatch at 541-693-6911.
Deputies were dispatched shortly before noon Sunday to the site about six miles west of Sunriver after a camper in the area reported possibly finding a decomposed body about a mile east of Wake Butte.
Deputies confirmed the human remains along a forest road, Bailey said. The OSP Crime Lab was called to the scene to help in the investigation and evidence recovery.
Bailey said sheriff’s detectives are working with the medical examiner’s office to determine the identity and cause or manner of death.
“Detectives do believe foul play occurred in this case,” the sergeant said in an initial news release Monday.
