Biden’s bad news in New Hampshire

No candidate saw a more precipitous decline than Joe Biden in a new poll of New Hampshire Democrats. The former vice president’s support dropped 9 points between July and October, to 15%, in a new poll from CNN and SSRS.

No other candidates saw significant dips in their support during that time.

Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts lead the pack with 21% and 18%, respectively.

The new poll shows 36% of voters believe Biden has the best chance of beating President Donald Trump, but Warren has gained on him here as well, climbing from 9% in July to 18%.

Compare this with the CNN/Des Moines Register Iowa poll in late September, where Biden held relatively steady, with a slight decrease in support to 20%, following Warren’s 22%.

This all doesn’t look good for Biden, whose lackluster fundraising numbers don’t pair well with softening showings in early-voting state polling. But Biden world doesn’t seem content to go calmly into the second tier.

A former Biden aide has launched a super PAC to help the candidate navigate the Democratic presidential primary and defend against attacks from Trump. Last week, the Biden campaign indicated it was dropping its opposition to the creation of an outside group that would defend against well-financed attacks from Trump’s campaign.

The Point: This new poll out of New Hampshire is bad news for Joe Biden, no doubt about it.
