Wimbledon 2023: Carlos Alcaraz wins the title at the All England Club by beating Novak Djokovic
WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — Carlos Alcaraz has stopped Novak Djokovic’s winning streak at Wimbledon and won his first trophy there. Now Alcaraz will head to the U.S. Open to defend his title in New York in August as a two-time major champion. Alcaraz shook off a slow start and surged at the end to beat Djokovic 1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 on a windy, cloudy Sunday at Centre Court. Alcaraz is a 20-year-old from Spain who is ranked No. 1. He leads the ATP Tour in titles this season with six. Djokovic had won Wimbledon four consecutive years and seven times in all. He also owns 23 Grand Slam trophies across his career.
