Death toll from IS bombing at a pro-Taliban cleric’s rally in Pakistan earlier this week rises to 63

KHAR, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistani officials say the death toll from an Islamic State group’s suicide bombing at a rally of a pro-Taliban cleric’s party over the weekend has risen to 63, after eight more of the wounded died in hospital. Sunday’s massive attack also left nearly 200 people wounded, some critically. A spokesman for the main hospital in the district of Bajur — near the border with Afghanistan where the attack took place — said on Wednesday that some of the wounded are still not in stable condition. After the attack, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers to do more to prevent militants from crossing the border to stage attacks.
