Blockbuster open for Christmas Eve, families visit for the nostalgia factor
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Christmas time is about spending time with your family, curling up on the couch, and watching your favorite Christmas movies. Blockbuster is hoping to get you and your family in the Christmas spirit, by offering up your favorite Christmas classics.
"It's always nice to see those familiar faces or the kids coming in here and saying, oh, they have 'The Grinch,'" Blockbuster Store Manager Dan Montgomery said Monday. "Oh, they have you know, 'It's a Wonderful Life.' Like whatever you're looking for, we're going to have it and you're going to be able to talk about how you did that with your kids at Christmas, with your parents and their parents."
A family visiting from McMinnville wanted to pass on the Blockbuster experience to the younger generation, and take a walk down memory lane.
"What brought us today? Nostalgia," Veruschka Peraza said. "Yes. We start dating. This was our place back in Florida. We went and started watching one movie and then it's like, okay, let's just pick up the second, and the third, and then just every weekend was pretty much our thing."
There are more than 21,000 movies to choose from including: The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Grinch, and A Christmas Story.
Javier Lopez was showing his nephew Aaron the magic of Blockbuster. Lopez said: "He doesn't know what Blockbuster, a video or Blockbuster is, so he's getting to know this."
On Christmas Eve, the video store will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will be closed Christmas day.
Montgomery said, "With so many locals, it's part of their Christmas tradition to come in here and get their movies for Christmas break, for that first week, that the kids are out of school and have a different Christmas movie for each day."
