BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A new pet groomer opened on Twin Knolls Drive in Bend. It has a focus on pets with anxiety. Paws and Purr's grooming says it's the first in the area to have every member of the staff certified by the Fear Free program. Fear Free is a science-based teaching program, and it shows groomers how to make cats and dogs more comfortable while they're getting a trim. Paws and Purrs takes extra time and care with its furry clients. Workers gradually introduce your pet to the grooming tools and get them used to the space, all while giving them lots of treats. It takes time but this method can help pets other groomers might turn away.

Kristen Christensen, Co-owner of Paws and Purrs told KTVZ "It can be a slow process. It can be as slow as starting with a meet and treat where we even meet super anxious dogs outside, give them treats, eventually bring them inside, give them treats, so it can be a process to get them comfortable, but I think you'd be surprised at how the nervous dogs transform."

The care extends to even how workers set up the shop. Dogs and cats have their own separate areas filled with calming scents. Kennels have soothing lights, privacy curtains, and mood music to help them stay calm. If you have a dog or cat that's had issues in the past, they wanna hear from you. You can contact them to schedule a visit.
