Governor Tina Kotek has issued an emergency declaration for Harney County due to severe flooding

BURNS, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Flooding in Harney County has prompted Governor Tina Kotek to declare an emergency for the area.

Evacuation notices have been sent to residents there.
According to the Harney County Sheriff’s Office, a number of evacuation level alerts have been sent for the city of Burns.
Here are the affected areas:
- Level One ‘Be Ready’ has been issued for the entire section of Broadway Avenue to Koa, north of Hwy 78. Be aware of changing conditions and prepare to evacuate. Pack essential items and have a plan for pets, family, and transportation.
- Level 2 ‘Be Set’ notice is in place south of Hwy 20 to Riverside Drive, down Koa, near the Silvies River. Be ready to leave at a moment’s notice, and prepare now. Those needing extra time or support should consider evacuating early.
There are emergency shelters in place at the Harney County Fairgrounds in the Memorial Building.
Waters are possibly too high for cars, and increased traffic of people trying to see what is going on, creates waves into homes, which means there’s a possibility of exposure to sewage.

The sheriff’s office is asking the public for pet crates.
