LOCAL ALERT WEATHER DAY: Excessive Heat Warning Issued for Central Oregon and Surrounding Areas

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) — The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for much of Central Oregon and parts of Washington, with dangerously high temperatures expected to reach up to 100 degrees. The warning is in effect from noon Sunday through 10 p.m. Tuesday.
The affected areas include:
- Central Oregon, the John Day Basin, the Foothills of the Southern Blue Mountains, and North Central Oregon.
Health Risks and Safety Precautions
The heat poses a moderate to locally major risk for heat-related illnesses, especially on Monday, when temperatures are forecast to peak.
Officials urge residents to:
- Drink plenty of water
- Stay in air-conditioned spaces
- Avoid direct sunlight
- Check on vulnerable neighbors and relatives
Children and pets should never be left in vehicles under any circumstances.
For those working or spending time outdoors, health experts recommend rescheduling strenuous activities to the early morning or evening. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) advises that outdoor workers take extra precautions, including frequent rest breaks and close monitoring for signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Call 911 immediately if symptoms occur.
