Car found submerged in Deschutes River, Police say vehicle stolen

BEND, Ore. — Bend Police are investigating a report of a partially submerged vehicle found early Friday morning in the Deschutes River near Riverbend Park.

At approximately 3:48 a.m. on Friday, August 22, Bend Police responded to a 911 call reporting a vehicle in the river about 10 yards from the bank, with its headlights still on.

An arriving officer swam out to the vehicle, a 2022 silver Subaru Outback, to check if anyone was inside. Bend Fire medics also assisted with a search. Authorities confirmed no one was in the car.

In the photos below taken by Marla Corwin, you can see the efforts first responders went to remove the vehicle.

The incident is being investigated as a theft. The investigation is ongoing.
