It’s National Dog Day! Are you celebrating around Central Oregon with your furry friend?
(CNN) -- Today is the year's biggest day for man's best friend. It's National Dog Day, right in the middle of the "dog days" of summer!
Dogs give their owners so much in comfort and unconditional love--so this is the perfect day to treat your pooch to a walk, a grooming, or an extra treat.
National Dog Day was founded two decades ago by animal rescue advocate and dog trainer Colleen Paige.
She's founded several animal-oriented recognition days to raise awareness about the plight of animals and encourage adoption.
The date of August 26th is personal for her--that's the date her family adopted their first dog from an animal shelter when Colleen was 10 years old.
