Security footage and stolen ski pass lead to Bend burglary arrest

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — A Bend man was arrested early Friday morning for allegedly committing multiple burglaries in northwest Bend. Donald Richard Cain, 61, was taken into custody after being identified through security camera footage and located with the help of a drone and a K9 unit.
The investigation began on Wednesday, Dec. 3, when Bend Police responded to a burglary report at the 2100 block of NW Lakeside Place. Officers found the home unoccupied, but discovered documents belonging to Cain, suggesting he had been living there.
On Thursday, Dec. 4, another burglary was reported at the 2600 block of NW Rippling River Court. Security footage showed Cain entering the home and leaving with a tote bag full of items. Cain returned to the same location early Friday morning, prompting the homeowner to alert the police.
Officers deployed a drone to locate Cain, who was hiding on a nearby cliff face. During his arrest, Cain was found wearing a coat with a stolen Mt. Bachelor pass in the pocket, which was traced back to a burglary at the 3100 block of NW Golf View Drive.

Cain faces several charges, including three counts of Burglary I, Criminal Trespass I and II, Criminal Mischief I, II, and III, and two counts of Theft II. He was lodged at Deschutes County Jail following his arrest.
Police suspect Cain may have committed additional burglaries in the northwest neighborhoods of Bend and urge residents to report any incidents to nonemergency dispatch at 541-693-6911.
