COPY seeks volunteers to mentor kids with an incarcerated parent

DCSO

BEND, Ore. — (KTVZ) Central Oregon Partnerships for Youth (COPY), a program of the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, is seeking volunteers to mentor children who have an incarcerated parent.

Volunteers are matched with a child who shares similar interests and commit to spending a few hours a week together for at least one year. Activities often include exploring the community, doing arts or crafts, or simply hanging out and talking.

COPY is offering a 3½-hour orientation and training class on Saturday, January 17th. The session covers program policies, how to build a positive mentor relationship, the impact of incarceration on families, and communication skills.

There is no cost to attend the training, but advanced registration is required. Interested volunteers can contact COPY to reserve a spot and learn more about the program.
