There’s Good News: Middle schoolers provide academic support at Buff Elementary

MADRAS, Ore. (KTVZ) — National Junior Honor Society students from JCMS recently volunteered in kindergarten through second-grade classrooms at Buff Elementary. The students spent several hours supporting teachers and assisting younger students with their daily schoolwork.

The initiative aligns with the five core pillars of the National Junior Honor Society, which include a specific focus on service. By working directly in the classrooms, the middle school students provided one-on-one and small-group assistance to some of the district's youngest learners.

During their time at the elementary school, the volunteers assisted with various academic subjects. This included helping children with reading and writing tasks while supporting teachers and staff with classroom management.

The middle schoolers also worked to help the younger students stay focused on their lessons. This support was intended to ensure that the students felt encouraged while completing their assignments.

The National Junior Honor Society is built upon five core pillars. These students used the classroom visits as an opportunity to demonstrate the pillar of service through direct action within their school district.
