GIG HARBOR, Wash. — Five people are dead, including a suspect, after a man was seen stabbing people in the street on the Key Peninsula Tuesday morning, the Pierce County Sheriff's Office confirmed.
Shortly before 8:50 a.m., a call came in for a violation of a no contact order in a neighborhood just north of Lake Kathryn. Deputies received a copy of the order to serve the suspect and, while on the way, witnesses reported a man was stabbing people outside the home they were responding to.
Around the same time, multiple people called 911 to report a man stabbing people. A deputy arrived and shots were fired at 9:33 a.m., according to the sheriff's office. When deputies arrived, the suspect was still stabbing people.
Four stabbing victims are dead along with the 32-year-old suspect, the sheriff's office said. Three victims died at the scene and the fourth was transported by Gig Harbor Fire crews, but later succumbed to their injuries.
Key Peninsula Fire also responded to what it's calling a "major incident."
Traffic on state Route 302 is being impacted near the 14000 block of 87th Avenue Court NW.
The Pierce County Force Investigation Team will take over the investigation.
